The Lubbock Police Department has made an arrest in the only unsolved murder of 2016.
Today around 2p.m., detectives with the Person Crimes Unit served a warrant for Lewis Ray Young, charging him with the murder of 79-year-old Conrado Sarate.
On September 6, 2016, officers discovered Sarate murdered inside his home at 2107 Avenue P while conducting a welfare check.
Over the last six months, detectives continued to follow up on leads and question acquaintances. Last week, detectives finally received a break in the case with DNA results from the Lubbock DPS Laboratory. Young was identified as a suspect through the DNA evidence. After further questioning, detectives secured an arrest warrant to charge Young with murder.
Young is now in the Lubbock County Detention Center with a bond set at $250,000. Prior to the warrant being served today, Young was arrested last night for an outstanding parole violation.
This remains an ongoing investigation by the Lubbock Police Department’s Person Crimes Unit.
