After a 10 year search the remains of a Texas Tech graduate who fought in Iraq were found.

Ginger Gilbert, the wife of the fallen soldier, is grateful they met so young because she thought she would have her entire life with him but she did not. She is blessed that they practically grew up together and at least had that time.

Gilbert was an interior design student at Texas Tech when she met a boy from Breckenridge who would later save the lives of U.S. Soldiers who were being attacked by an Iraqi tribe in Baghdad in 2007.

“He didn’t hesitate that day, he didn’t hesitate to give up his life,” said Gilbert.

Gilbert said her care-free husband of 13 years, F-16 air force pilot major Troy Gilbert, was never fully laid to rest with only a portion of his remains making it back to U.S. soil.

“When the small amount of remains were recovered, I really felt then that the lord was saying just trust me and have peace and whether or not his body was ever recovered and I did. But I never stopped praying and never stopped hoping,” said Gilbert.

10 years later she got a call. The remains of her husband had been found. She says this isn’t just closure for her and their five children together but for the entire nation.

“Definitely some closure to just know that good won. He was just so good. I wanted good to win over evil and it did.”
