If you’re someone that gets gas at ALON 7-Eleven stations, you’ll notice some signs attracting your attention while filling up. Lubbock is now part of a new, reduced emissions fuel program called ‘STRIVE’.

“STRIVE is a reduced emissions fuel program provided by ALON 7-Eleven. What we do is ALON will calculate carbon emissions and invest in carbon reduction projects like planting trees and solar panels and things like that to neutralize and reduce those emissions by up to 30%,” says Maryann Garrett, Director of Marketing and Key Accounts for GreenPrint.

The program, which launched today in Lubbock is a partnership between ALON distributors and GreenPrint, a company focused on sustainability.

“I think people will really appreciate a program like this, because it allows them to give back without doing anything differently. You’ll come pump your gas as you normally would with no increase in price…the fuel is the same, everything’s the same. You’re just doing a little extra by giving back just by pumping your gas here,” she adds.

To kick off the launch, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. They also presented a check to one of the carbon offset programs.

“ALON 7-Eleven was one of the early adopters of this program and so they’re kind of leading the chart with a cool, new, innovative program like this,” Garrett says. “We launched the program initially in Albuquerque at 36 stations, and now we’re live in Lubbock at 20 stations.”

The whole focus is to reduce emissions, but it’s also meant to impact the local community in a positive way.

“We look at the gallon, volume, time of day, and a couple other factors to determine how much pollution is emitted based off that gallon and then we attribute it per station, per grade, per gallon, per day and then we go ahead and allocate funds based off that calculation to the appropriate projects closest to that station,” says Trenton Spindler, Co-Founder of GreenPrint.

“Our whole focus here is local events, so we want to make sure it’s a community initiative. We’re obviously trying to reduce emissions out of the air in the city of Lubbock, that is our primary goal. That’s why we partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation as well as a handful of reforestation organizations in Lubbock to make sure that we find relevant local projects that affect the community in a positive way where people can enjoy seeing their funds contributed to,” Spindler says.

In terms of the future for this program, they are looking to expand to more than just Albuquerque and Lubbock.

“We’re looking to push this out to as many markets as we can with ALON 7-Eleven and I know that’s their goal too, so really, it’s just a matter of time. There are a few markets in Texas other than Lubbock that we’ll be hitting probably and we’ll kind of just go from there and keep growing,” Garrett says.
