Reece Walker in Court Friday, Case Related to Death of Dalton Debrick

Reece Walker, 21, the man accused of furnishing alcohol to a minor in the death of incoming Texas Tech Freshman Dalton Debrick, was in court Friday morning.   Walker’s charge is currently a class A misdemeanor.

Not much was resolved Friday morning in the pre-trial hearings.  It was revealed in court that prosecutors provided Walker’s defense with more documentation and the defense wanted time to review it.

Walker turned himself in on April 21.  He was released on a $2,500 bond.

The original incident dated back to August of 2014 when Debrick was found dead at a residence in the 3600 block of 36th Street.  Texas Tech expelled Walker and accused him of being heavily involved in providing alcohol for a party by the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.

In March, Walker sued the university claiming he never provided alcohol and the university’s investigation was stacked against him.  A judge ordered Texas Tech to let Walker continue classes.  In mid-May Walker dropped the lawsuit.

The Debrick Family of Irving and family supporters continue to lobby the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney, Matt Powell, to file felony hazing charges against Walker and others.

A grand jury on April 14 chose not file felony charges.  The Debrick family believes prosecutors did not properly present the grand jury with evidence of hazing.
