It was six years ago on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 that we first heard the name Hailey Dunn. She was the 13-year-old cheerleader that was reported missing from Colorado City in 2010.
Search efforts for the missing teen spanned the course of three years. In 2013, Hailey’s remains were found in a dried up lake bed at Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County. On the anniversary of her disappearance, Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn, sat down with KTAB-TV and BigCountryHomepage.com to talk about the emotional anniversary.
“It’s the same as every day,” Dunn said. “I feel sadness over not having her home yet. I feel anger over not having an arrest yet. I feel anger over somebody not having any remorse to confess. It’s always in the back of my mind,” she continued. “I just try to keep very busy.”
Billie said although Hailey’s killer is still at large, she still has hope that justice will be served.
“I still want to believe every time they tell me there’s going to be an arrest soon,” she said. “I keep that faith.”
With the somber anniversary being near the holiday season, Billie said it’s an emotional time.
“It’s tough. I’m always with a lot of my family, my close family, on Christmas,” she said. “But it’s still tough that I don’t have my daughter.”
Billie said what eases her mind, is the support and small piece of closure that she’s received.
“That really warms my heart, I have KTAB contacting me every year,” she said. “That we have over 4,000 followers on Hope for Hailey Facebook page that sends us messages all the time of prayers and we’re going to keep sharing Hailey’s story. It’s very heartwarming.”
Billie Dunn confirmed that the Scurry County Sheriff’s Office is continuously providing updates in the investigation. According to Billie, the FBI is still offering a $15,000 reward for any information on the Hailey Dunn case.
