Reminder of Where Fireworks are Legal Ahead of July 4th

As of Wednesday, fireworks sales have begun around Lubbock, but it is illegal to shoot a firework, or even possess them, inside the city limits.

Every year, around this time of year, the Lubbock Police Department says they get an increase of calls pertaining to people shooting off fireworks inside the city limits.

According to Lubbock Police, between June 23 and July 7, there were 672 calls pertaining to fireworks.

The Lubbock Fire Marshal’s Office said the city’s ordinance makes it illegal to posses or shoot fireworks inside the city limits.

TNT Fireworks, located at 82nd and Avenue P, is actually just outside the city limits. That’s where Jinks White has been selling for years.

White said he reminds people where they can shoot off their fireworks.

“They ask, a lot of people, especially if they’re new to the area, or have not been around, ask where they can shoot them off, and we just direct them out to the county, and out to where it’s actually legal. We always emphasize that they number one, be safe, and take the proper precautions, and we also ask that they pick up their trash,” White said.

Fireworks are on sale through July 4.
