A controversial organization, Repent Amarillo, was recently added to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of 900 or so hate groups.

Repent Amarillo, which has been in operation for about a decade, was listed in the category of general hate.  The SPLC said groups under this heading espouse a variety of hateful doctrines.

The group and its leader, David Grisham, first came to light when they protested what they described as a swingers club.

Grisham said, “The reason we’re on it and the reason the American Family Association is on it is because of the things we oppose.  And it goes against the Southern Poverty Law Center politically.   This is more of a political hit list than it is a hate list.”

Grisham said if Jesus were around today the SPLC would list him as a hate group.

The Southern Poverty Law Center was not available for comment Tuesday.

The SPLC website said groups are not listed for what they oppose but – as alleged by SPLC – misinformation they disseminate.

On February 19, Repent Amarillo posted on Facebook, “If you defend Islam you defend the ABUSE OF WOMEN. This is EVIL.”

In that same post, Repent Amarillo also said, “Every Mosque in America should be on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s ‘Hate Map’ If you support Muslim immigration, you support bringing wife beaters into this country. Islam; the Religion of Hate and Violence.”
