Lubbock Police arrested Elias Moncada, 18, after a police chase Tuesday afternoon. Police said just before 3:00 p.m. someone called police to report two cars drag racing.
An officer pursued one of the cars but lost sight. About 20 minutes later police found the car parked in the 3800 block of East 3rd Street.
“One person has been taken into custody,” police said.
Police also said there was a crash at Parkway and MLK that involved an officer. No injuries were reported there.
“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and how it may be related to this case,” LPD said.
Police towed a car in a backyard near Maria Baltazar’s home. She is a neighbor of Moncada. Residents in the area told EverythingLubbock.com they believed Moncada parked it at his neighbor’s home to hide it from police.
“I hope he stops drag racing, because it’s going to be a headache just to have to do the whole legal stuff, go to jail, get bonded out, and all the time and money that’s going to be wasted when it could have been prevented,” Baltazar said.
She said her family and the Moncada family have been neighbors for several years.
“I’m sure he’ll learn because I’m sure he’s not going to want to go back to jail,” she explained.
The jail booking sheet listed evading police in a motor vehicle as the criminal charges against Moncada. If convicted, it would be a third degree felony.
