While many think of the winter months as being the hardest for Lubbock’s homeless population, “Restoring Hope” says the needs and challenges don’t go away with the weather.

In fact, they say, the recent rains and cold weather have had a serious impact on them.

“Material things only last for so long,” said Restoring Hope’s Chris Carter. “When the weather gets wet and the weather gets cold, we need the donations just as badly as we did around Christmas time. We still see the same needs that were there before, we just don’t have as much help as what we did during the winter time.”

Carter says that the recent weather might be causing more of the homeless community to hang around the center of the city due to the proximity of shelters, soup kitchens and more. He say that he hopes people will consider stopping to help and said he would even love to see the city officials get involved.
