Earlier today, Sunday, December 4, 2016, around 3:00 a.m., New Mexico State Police officers were dispatched to mile marker 46 on State Road 18 in reference to a fatal motor vehicle crash.    

The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by, Jesus Piedra-Martinez (42) from Hobbs, New Mexico, was northbound when he lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle exited the roadway an overturned in the median coming to rest in the southbound travel lanes.  Mr. Piedra-Martinez was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and sustained fatal injuries.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

Passengers
Priscilla Herrera (38) from Hobbs, NM sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Lea Regional Hospital.

Dayannara Enriquez (1) from Hobbs, NM sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Lea Regional Hospital.

Aiden Mendoza (1) from Hobbs, NM sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Lea Regional Hospital.

None of the passengers were seat-belted in the vehicle.  

No additional information is available at this time. 

This vehicle crash is still under investigation.
