On Saturday, March 5, 2016 at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers from the New Mexico State Police responded to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash. This crash occurred at mile marker 81 on U.S. 285, north of Artesia, New Mexico.
The initial investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by Jesus Chavez-Nunez (31) from Roswell, New Mexico, was northbound on U.S 285 when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving. The vehicle then entered the median and over turned. Mr. Chavez-Nunez was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
Mr. Chavez-Nunez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The passenger in the vehicle, Enrique Payan-Rubio (31) from Roswell, New Mexico, was transported to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center where he was treated and release.
This vehicle crash is still under investigation.
