If you take a drive around the east side of town, you’re in for a bumpy ride in some parts. Former District 2 City Councilman Floyd Price told EverythingLubbock.com people across the city should vouch for better roads, because it reflects poorly on the city as a whole.

“I’ve lived here, at this house for about 47 years, and I’ve lived in Lubbock all my life.”

Price is no stranger to the run-down roads in East Lubbock.

“Of course I’m passionate about the whole city, but my neighborhood especially, because you see your neighborhood everyday, and you travel the same streets practically everyday.”

It’s not hard to point out the problem areas. Guava Avenue is one in particular. Price said if the city doesn’t make room for street improvement in the budget, there won’t be any money to make changes.

And Price said the entire community should be invested in the project.

“When you’re talking about Lubbock, you’re talking about Lubbock proper, that’s 250,000 people, so we just don’t want to single out by talking about the whole city and you got a blighted area, the whole city better be looking at that blighted area, because that blighted area affects the whole city.”

If you have a problem with roads along the North or East Loop, those are managed by the State of Texas, so TxDOT is your best bet.

“Citizens, drivers can always call our offices, we have 17 maintenance offices here in the Lubbock District,  and those phone numbers are listed on the TxDOT website,” Dianah Ascencio said, “But any time a citizen sees a roadway where they feel there’s a concern, they’re more than welcome to call our offices to let us know what those concerns and where those concerns are.”
