One Central Lubbock mother now has plans to install security cameras around her home after both of her children’s bikes were stolen right outside the house in broad daylight.
This however, isn’t the first incident of theft in the neighborhood. She says she and her neighbors are beginning to see a common trend of break-ins in and around the 47th and Avenue U area.
“Our neighbors have seen that people have been trying to get into their houses. There’s other stuff that’s also been stolen even off their front porches,” said the mother, who wanted to remain private. “I just don’t think it’s right. People work for the things that they have, and especially for young kids it’s very disappointing for the kids when their stuff disappear.”
The neighborhood is near Clapp Park. After a human bone was found and an aggravated robbery took place at the park in the recent weeks, the mother says she now feels unsafe in the area she calls home.
“It’s summer so there’s going to be mischievous people walking around and they’re going to end up taking your stuff just because they can.”
She says she won’t be replacing the bikes until she has security cameras set up around her home, and asks that whoever does have the bikes to return them, “no questions asked.”
Until those security cameras are installed however, she says she plans to stay on top of monitoring the neighborhood activity as best as she can by using two neighborhood apps: RAIDSonline and the Nextdoor app. Both communicate what news/crime/happenings are going around your neighborhood through posts and pictures shared by neighbors in the same residential area.
