On May 12, 2016, National Park Service rangers and a U.S. Border Patrol agent responded to a call for medical assistance. Upon arrival, they found a 37-year old male from San Angelo, Texas, who was unconscious and unresponsive. Several rounds of CPR were performed, but they were unable to revive him. The cause of death is still to be determined.
The incident occurred at the Dorgan House trailhead near the Castolon Historic District in the southwest part of the park. The gentleman was with his wife and parents at the time.
“We are truly saddened by this tragic death,” stated Superintendent Cindy Ott-Jones, “and offer our condolences to his family and friends.”
