Saturday, December 3rd
7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It is that time of year again! The Lubbock Police Department is excited to announce the 9th annual Santa Cops event will kick off first thing tomorrow morning.
The goal of this special event is simple: to provide a Christmas to children in need who probably would not have one otherwise.
This year 36 children who were identified as “in need” will be paired with officers and dispatchers to enjoy an entire day of shopping and fun. About $500 will be spent on each child. This would not be possible without the generosity of the businesses involved and the community members who graciously donated to our Santa Cops program.
The day will start with everyone meeting at 7:30a.m. at the fairgrounds. From there, the children will pair up with their officer and head to Barnes and Noble to pick out books.
The next stop will be a breakfast provided at the Lubbock National Bank off 50th and Utica, followed by a trip to Cardinals where the children will have the entire store to themselves as they pick out new shoes.
Other stops include Wal-Mart, Burlington, and Bodyworks Adrenaline City. The last stop is at Yates Flooring. Neely Yates will read the children a Christmas story while they enjoy hot coco, and waiting outside will be a surprise to end the day. Yates Flooring will give a new bike to each child.
This event is truly an unforgettable experience, and we are grateful for all of those who help make it possible.
