The start of school was delayed by two hours Wednesday morning at Plainview ISD’s Coronado Middle School.
PISD said on the district’s website, “Police are working a situation in the neighborhood near Coronado.” The situation was not campus.
Police were looking for the suspect from a shooting early Wednesday morning.
Police said, “The Plainview Police Department responded to a business, located at 801 N. Columbia, in reference to shots fired.”
Police also said, “When officers arrived they found a 40-year-old Hispanic female to have been shot. It appears that she was shot one time with non-life threatening injuries.”
At about 8:15 a.m., PISD told parents that the all-clear had been given and students could start going to the middle school.
“Coronado classes will still begin two hours late,” PISD said.
Prior to 10:00 a.m., police said the suspect was apprehended.

At 12:44 AM officers of the Plainview Police Department responded to a business, located at 801 N. Columbia, in reference to shots fired. When officers arrived they found a forty year Hispanic female to have been shot. It appears that she was shot one time with non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses observed a gray to dark colored vehicle leaving the scene. Plainview Police Department SWAT team was activated after locating the suspect vehicle on the 900 block of west 26th street. At this time the suspect has not been located. We expect to release the name of the suspect at a later time. This incident appears to be a domestic situation. The victim was transported to Lubbock University Medical Center for treatment.
The suspect is described to be a black male approximately, 43 years of age, thin build and is believed to live or frequent the area around the 900 block of west 26th street.
