Following numerous reported burglaries in Lubbock, a local security company has reported an increase in sales of high-definition surveillance cameras.

Lubbock Sight Sound and Security has noticed a “big increase in security cameras,” according to Nathan Gibson, manager at the company.

“We’ve done more of those this last year than any other year before that,” Gibson said.

Gibson said alarm system sales have slowly increased.

“Our high definition security systems, and cameras have helped solve several crimes,” he added.

Lubbock Police said 2207 burglaries were reported in 2015. Police said 9.6 percent (214) of those burglaries occurred between Thanksgiving and New Year’s.

From January 1 through January 15, 2016, LPD reported 71 burglaries in Lubbock.

Gibson said in 100 percent of crimes committed where Lubbock Sight Sound and Security’s equipment was used, the criminals were caught.

“Really, it’s the peace of mind, to me,” Gibson said, “especially if you’ve got like a stay at home mom, or wife, that is there, that you’re worried about. That’s kind of nerve-racking. Having that extra peace of mind is really what it’s all about.”

“Going out of your way to make everyone feel secure in your own household, no matter if you’re in the house or not, I think that is invaluable,” he added.
