The release of the Mac Selena limited edition makeup collection drew a line of hundreds of fans that wrapped around Dillard’s at the South Plains Mall Thursday morning, some camping out as early as 6 p.m. the previous night.

Sheena Oujezdsky of Lubbock set up her spot at 8 p.m. Wednesday. She had already ordered an entire collection, but wanted to make it complete by ordering the brush. Her favorite products, however, are the three lipsticks, “Como La Flor,” “Dreaming of You,” and “Amor Prohibido.” Each product in the collection is fondly named after the singer’s greatest hits.

“Her [Selena] iconic red lips, absolutely love!” gushed Oujezdsky. “We’re all so happy to have a piece of Selena memorabilia because she meant so much to so many people.”

The store’s manager and employees expected the large turnout, and requested customers limit three of each product per person.

“We exepcted a big day and a lot of heavy customers,” said Clara Ellison, the Dillard’s store manager. “The loyalty and the fan support is phenomenal for Selena and just to see that still carry on is just exciting.”

Slowly, but surely, the line weaved through the store, beginning at the north entrance and winding up at the MAC counter line.

Marisa Davis too had gotten early for the in-store release. She says she grew up listening to Selena and that the collection itself as well as the large turnout proves as a testament to the late singer’s legacy.

“I’ve been a huge fan of hers since I was little,” said Davis. “This just speaks volumes, she was a beautiful person.”

Each person was given an order sheet to mark down the three products they planned to recieve. MAC personnel walked through the crowds notifying customers when certain products were out of stock. The first to go were a few of the eyeshadows and the “Como La Flor” lipstick.

It was plain to see which customers fulfilled their orders as they gleefully clutched their black MAC bags, some even taking the opportunity to begin applying the makeup as soon as they recieved it.

By noon, the store had completely sold out of all the MAC Selena products, leaving for a few disappointed customers, such as South Plains College students, Avery Tijerina and Alie Torres, who were not quite able to make it to the front of the line in time.

Torres stood in line for Tijerina as she took her morning exams. Between tests, she even came by to check on how the line was.

“I was late to class but I came back here and then they told me it was sold out,” said Tijerina. “I’m a little upset, but it’s okay.”

The two however say they’re not giving up on their quest to get their hands on the Queen of Tejano’s make up collection.

“It’s not over. Anything for ‘Selenas’!” said Torres.

MAC shared with EverythingLubbock that they do have a caling list started. Customers can give them their name and number and call you if they get anymore makeup from the Selena collection in.
