Senator Ted Cruz made a quick stop in the Rio Grande Valley on Saturday to meet with mayors and business leaders from different parts of the region in deep South Texas.

The purpose of Senator Cruz’s visit was to listen to the concerns of communities across the Rio Grande Valley about the new administration in Washington and the challenges they may face in the future.

Cruz also joined DPS Troopers on an aerial tour and boat patrol to see how effective their technology is to control the number of people crossing the border into Texas illegally.

Cruz spoke with U.S. Border Patrol agents who say building a wall will help slow down people crossing the border illegally.

Cruz also added that since Trump’s inauguration, illegal immigration and apprehension rates have dropped by half in the Rio Grand Valley sector.
