#5 Texas Tech trailed for much of the game Thursday night vs West Virginia, but the Red Raiders took the lead for good with a two-run seventh inning to claim the series opener 2-1.

At one point, Tech was batting a lowly .053 from the plate vs freshman Mountaineer pitcher Michael Grove.

The sticks would wake up in the late innings, as Tyler Neslony singled to right field to score Michael Davis. The Red Raiders would manufacture the second run on a passed ball that scored Neslony.

WVU outhit Tech for the game 5-3.

The Matadors also relied upon some great defensive performances that included a diving catch from Tanner Gardner in left-center field and a throw-out at the plate from right fielder Stephen Smith.

The Texas Tech defense, pitching stranded four West Virginia runners for the game.
