MARFA, TX — Several families in Marfa are homeless after an apartment complex catches fire Tuesday afternoon.
 
According to the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office, the fire occurred at the Marfa Villa Apartments along Golf Course Road.
 
Deputies say the first reports of the structure fire were received around 4:00 p.m. Marfa Public Radio reported the fire started downstairs and destroyed 12 units in the 24-unit complex. 
 
There were no reports of injuries at the apartment complex. Several children were home alone at the time of the fire but managed to escape. 
 
The apartments are considered low-income housing.
 
The Marfa community is already stepping up in wake of the damage. Marfa ISD plans to offer free breakfast to all victims of this fire from now through the end of the school year.
 
Mando’s Restaurant  reports they are collecting clothing, as well as planning a fundraiser to benefit the fire victims in the near future.
