Shallowater Band to Play at World-Famous Carnegie Hall in New York

Shallowater ISD announced Tuesday night that the high school band was invited to play at Carnegie Hall in New York.

SISD said on Facebook, “Four ensembles from across the United States were chosen to perform.”

The band will play on March 20, 2017 and fundraising was well underway by Wednesday.

“We will need all of your help in this endeavor,” the band said on Facebook. “Thanks to all who have made the band a nationally recognized ensemble!”

“It is pretty phenomenal,” said Shallowater High School and Middle School Band Coordinator Don Summersgill.  “We’re pleased as anything to have that opportunity.”

Summersgill told EverythingLubbock.com that two years ago someone associated with Carnegie heard the middle school band when it was named the Honor Band of Texas.

Sommersgill said he was asked, “How good is your high school band?”

He was asked to submit materials for the high school band to be considered at Carnegie which he did.

“Our first fundraiser is a meal before the end-of-year concert,” Sommersgill said.  “It will be a spaghetti dinner.  Much of it has been donated by the manager at Olive Garden, so it will be good.”

The dinner will be 5:30 to 7:30 on May 9 in the high school commons area and then the concert will be 7:30 p.m.
