A shooting was reported at 8:40 a.m. in Forbes Hall, a building with offices and classrooms, at Lackland Air Force Base.

At about 9:40 a.m., the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department said via Twitter, “We have two dead at Lackland Air Force Base, deputies are still inside the building.”

The sheriff’s department said Friday morning the shooter was accounted for and it was no longer considered an active shooter situation.  The situation was then described as a murder-suicide.

The base was on lockdown for a time, and later the lockdown was lifted. ABC News reported that in addition to local authorities, the FBI was also responding to the scene.

CBS affiliate KENS-TV reported that three nearby schools were on lockdown.

CNN said, “An airman shot his squadron commander Friday morning at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, a Pentagon official told CNN.”

As of Friday afternoon, officials declined to identify the dead, provide details about any relationship between the two, what led to the gunfire, or what ended it.
