A Lubbock couple managed to call police around midnight when a 17-year-old shooting victim came to their front door pleading for an ambulance.
Lubbock police said Milton Charles Gardner, Jr. was shot in the stomach early Monday morning.
Police said moments after the shooting Gardner tried knocking on doors near 36th street and Boston looking for help.
That’s when Tim Brees opened his door and attempted to help Gardner.
“About 12:45 a young gentlemen knocked on the door,” said Brees. “I looked through the peep hole and asked him what was wrong. He said he had just been shot in the stomach and asked if I could call him an ambulance.”
Brees said his wife helped him call 911 and Police showed up in two minutes, followed by ambulances that took Gardner with life-threatening injuries to surgery at UMC.
“You want to do what you would want people to do for you,” he said. “You can’t just close the door and leave somebody in trouble outside.”
Lubbock Police suggest people stay inside their homes while they make that 911 call, and keep police updated until they arrive.
LPD said Gardner’s condition is better and he is expected to be released from the hospital soon.
No arrests have been made yet for the shooter. LPD said the shooting victim isn’t cooperating, but they continue investigating.
