Lubbock Police released video on Thursday of a two shoplifting suspects and said one of them assaulted an off-duty Slaton police sergeant. Police said the two stole items on May 1 from the Dollar General at 1621 82nd Street.
Police said they then went to the Stripes at 82nd and Interstate 27. While there, police said they tried to leave without paying for items they had taken. The off-duty officer saw one of the suspects and tried to stop him.
A police report said, “[The Slaton police sergeant] advised [the suspect] struggled with him, but [the sergeant] did not have any handcuffs with him, so he was unable to place him in custody.”
Lubbock Police said, “The suspect assaulted the officer and then fled on foot.”
