Show Your Support throughout Colon Cancer Awareness Month

Since February 2000 when it was officially established by President Clinton, March has been recognized as National Colon Cancer Awareness month.

Dr. Sameer Islam with University Medical Center stopped by the set of KLBK This Morning to talk about the importance of encouraging colon health and making sure patients are getting screened.

Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates that this year 136,830 people will be diagnosed and 50,310 will die from this disease.

Dr. Islam assures that it is highly treatable if detected early.
