Shuttle Bus Crash Kills 76-Year-Old Woman, DPS Says

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a shuttle bus crash took the life a 76-year-old passenger.

The victim was identified as Gloria Goulet of Stamford, and the driver was identified as Tewanna Shanae Moore, 36, of Stamford.

DPS said the Ford E350 bus was going northbound on U.S. Highway 277 south of Stamford.

DPS said the bus, “failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway causing it to veer off to the left.”

DPS also said Goulet was sitting in a wheelchair at the back of the bus.

Paratransit buses are sometimes designed to leave passengers in a wheelchair provided that the chair and the passenger are properly secured with special restraints.  DPS did not say one way or the other if Goulet was properly restrained.

“During the crash the passenger fell off of the wheelchair landing on the floorboard of the Bus,” DPS said.

Goulet was taken to Stamford Memorial Hospital where she later died.  Moore was taken the same hospital for treatment of injuries.

DPS said the crash remains under investigation.
