At approximately 4:30 p.m. today, we received a call of an accident with injuries on South East Loop 289 near South East Drive.

Officers responded to the scene and found a single vehicle accident involving a small passenger car. The female driver, and only occupant of the car, was taken by ambulance to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Due to the injuries, investigators with LPD’s Accident Investigation Unit responded to the  scene to begin a crash investigation.

The woman was traveling in the westbound lane of SE Loop 289 and had just traveled over the South East Drive overpass. It is still early in the investigation, but it appears she then traveled into the median and lost control. The vehicle struck the guardrail and came to a rest in the median between the west and eastbound lanes.

Right now both west and east bound lanes of Loop 289 are being forced to exit South East Drive. Once Accident Investigators finish processing the scene, the lanes will be reopened.
