On July 15th, 2016, at approximately 8 p.m., Slaton Police Officer Paul Rucker was directing traffic in the intersection of Texas Ave. and Railroad Ave. in Slaton, Texas for an event.

Officer Rucker made contact with a subject not associated with the car show in an attempt to detour the vehicle around the event.  The subject refused to cooperate with Officer Rucker and a physical altercation ensued. The subject dragged Officer Rucker approximately 900 yards before making an evasive action with his vehicle throwing Officer Rucker off of the vehicle landing into the bar ditch in the 100 Block of Railroad Ave., Slaton, Texas.

Officer Rucker was transported to a local hospital by UMC EMS listed in serious condition at the time of transport. Officer Rucker sustained road rash to his head and limbs and a major contusion to his head. After examination Officer Rucker was released hours later and is recovering.

A person of interest has been questioned but no charges have been filed at this time.
