Since the oil industry began it’s decline, the economy in west Texas isn’t what it once was. But the city of Snyder has managed to continue it’s growth despite the downturn.

“We’ve seen some decline but we have seen lots of new business,” states Snyder City Manager Merle Taylor.

Three  new hotels in the area are either complete or in the process of being finished.

When asked why they are doing so well, Taylor believes it has to do with the annual events Snyder hosts.

“They do bring in a lot of money to town,” says the city manager.

One of those events is the Scurry County Rodeo which is celebrating it’s 79th year this weekend.

The Rodeo’s first night attendance this year exceeding expectations and organizers are hoping the new additions to the venue continue to draw in a crowd.
