Tuesday afternoon south Lubbock parents shuffled their playing children back inside their homes after they saw Lubbock police officers converge on a house near 92nd and Avenue X.

Public Information Officer, Tiffany Pelt, said officers were trying to serve to Dimitrise Lyghts, 22, on the 2300 block of 92nd street. Officers called for back up after Lyghts refused to come out and they realized there were more people, including a child, inside the home.

“Our officers had to be careful,” Pelt said. “They couldn’t really use tactics that they would normally use because there were other people in the home,  as well as a child.”

Pelt said Lyghts was wanted for sex trafficking of a child and weapons charges. Records show Lyghts and two other women were arrest for compelling a minor to commit prostitution in June. You can read about that arrest here

On Tuesday, Lyghts remained in the home for almost four hours. Negotiators from LPD, the SWAT team and Department of Public Safety helicopter were called in to help monitor the situation.

Shelby Barrientz said she kept an eye on the area but never got any information out of police.

“We didn’t know what was going on,” Barrientz said.  “We knew something was going on because the helicopter was  circling around this whole area.  We see them strapping up with guns out here and we have kids in this neighborhood, so we are wondering what is actually going on. Like they should have said ‘Stay in your houses’ or ‘Do something,’ but we haven’t heard anything.”

Lyghts peacefully surrendered around 3:40 pm and the area was re-opened.
