The South Plains Food Bank will unveil the new J.T. and Margaret Talkington Distribution Center
Tuesday, March 29th at an open house from 11 am until 6 pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to
come and go anytime after 11 am until the evening at 6.

“The entire Lubbock and surrounding south plains community is invited to join us for our open house
Tuesday, March 29th”, said David Weaver, SPFB’s Executive Director. “We are excited to show our
supporters and friends how we are growing and working to accomplish our mission to alleviate hunger
and give hope to the hungry.”

Activities include: Guided tours every half hour; Free BBQ Lunch provided by Lubbock National Bank
from 11 – 1 pm; Ribbon Cutting provided by Chamber of Commerce at noon; words and special
announcement by David Weaver at 2:30.

“We will be hosting guided tours as needed around the warehouse,” said Lyn Garcia, SPFB’s Chief
Development Officer. “We are so proud of this warehouse and the opportunities to grow our programs!
For example our Kids’ Café program now has enough preparation and cooking space to open the
program to potential new sites!”

The Kids’ Café program is one of the South Plains Food Bank’s many programs and serves hot meals at
children’s after-school sites around the community. Tours offered during the open house will show the
warehouse but also tell the story of Food Bank programs.

The South Plains Food Bank’s J.T. and Margaret Talkington Distribution Center was generously funded
by a grant from the Talkington Foundation.
