Beginning Tuesday, June 7, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will reduce westbound US 84, at southeast Loop 289, to one-lane of traffic. The alternating lane closures will allow Gibson & Associates, Inc., of Balch Springs, Texas, to safely make repairs to a damaged bridge girder.
One westbound travel lane will remain open while the repairs are being made, but motorists should anticipate delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes around the work zone.
The northbound Loop 289 bridge was closed to all traffic on Oct. 31, after a routine bridge inspection revealed damage to one bridge beam. After a thorough inspection, the bridge was reopened, but to only one lane of traffic.
Work to make the bridge repairs is expected to take two weeks to complete; weather permitting. Eastbound US 84 traffic will not be affected.
