The South Plains Food Bank has teamed up with the Texas Hunger Initiative to fill the hunger gap for children who may go without that middle-of-the-day meal in summer.
Texas Hunger Initiative’s Outreach Specialist Madeline McClure claimed seventy-five percent of Lubbock’s children are eligible for free, introduced-priced meals and this program serves exactly that.
“This is a summer meals programs,” McClure said. “It provides free food to anyone under 18 all summer long, we’ve got a bunch of sites around the city.”
The South Plains Food Bank’s Child Nutrition Program Director Susan Raines Luesse said they are already having success.
“We expect to deliver and serve about 150,000 meals. Since Wednesday, they’ve already delivered fiver-thousand meals,” Luesse said.
There are thirty-four program sites in the Lubbock area.
