Grab your canned goods, and help out the South Plains Food Bank this weekend. They have teamed up with the National Association of Letter Carriers for the 24th anniversary of the ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive, the nation’s largest single-day food drive.
“This food drive comes at a critical time when our inventory begins to dip down as we prepare for the summer, so this is one of the ways we work to make sure we have enough food on hand to serve the hungry families that we’ll be serving this summer,” says South Plains Food Bank CEO, David Weaver. “We’ll have some other food drives coming up, but this really kicks off our summer program.”
You’ll most likely find a plastic bag in your mailbox and the goal is to fill it up with non-perishable foods such as rice and beans, peanut butter, cereal, and canned meals like tuna or soups. If you did not receive a bag in the mail, you can put the food items in any plastic bag. Weaver says to leave the bags by the mailbox on Saturday, and the postal carrier will pick them up.
