AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Need something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving? Texans can add cheaper gas prices to their list this week.

AAA Texas reports more than a third of gas stations in the Lone Star State are selling regular unleaded gasoline for $2.25 per gallon or less. The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.31, which is down seven cents from this day last week.

“The 3.8 million Texans who are driving to their Thanksgiving destination will find pump prices similar to last year,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “When it comes time to fill-up during the trip, motorists should keep in mind that gas stations along highly traveled routes may find prices more expensive than in-town.”

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed by AAA Texas, drivers in Midland are paying the most for gas with an average of $2.90, while drivers in Sherman-Denison are paying $2.10.

The national average price for a gallon of gas is $2.61, AAA Texas indicated. That’s seven cents less than this day last week and eight cents more than the regular price per gallon at this same time last year, according to a release from the organization.
