Approximately 20 dogs were rescued from a north Abilene house fire, according to the Abilene Fire Department.
No one was home and none of the dogs were hurt.
The fire happened in the 700 block of Sandefer Street, just before 9 p.m., Friday. The fire was quickly brought under control.
Abilene Animal Control was called in to assist with the 20 dogs found in the home.
The estimated cost of damage to the home was $2,500. The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
The cause of the fire was ruled as accidental. Officials said the fire was caused from an improperly discarded cigaratte.
