LUBBOCK, Texas – The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel dropped for the first time in 14 weeks, according to a news release from AAA Texas.
Twenty-seven states saw gas prices decrease or hold steady on the week.
The statewide gas price average for Texas decreased for the first time since the beginning of February,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas/AAA New Mexico spokesperson. “While the price is slightly lower compared to last week, it’s not likely this will be a long-lasting trend as demand for gasoline remains robust and summer driving season is right around the corner.”
On Saturday, AAA reported a statewide average in Texas at $2.58 for a gallon regular unleaded fuel, roughly 3 cents lower than last Saturday.
Gasoline inventories built for the first time since early February and contributed to a very small drop in gas price averages, AAA Texas said.
The national average price was reported at $2.87 on Saturday.
$2.56 was the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Lubbock on Saturday, according to AAA.
Drivers in the Midland area continue to pay the highest prices in Texas. The lowest prices in the state on Saturday could be found in the San Antonio area.
