Albuquerque police: Shooting suspect dead, 3 victims hospitalized

The suspect in a triple shooting last night at the Ben E. Keith warehouse is dead. Three people also remain hospitalized while police try and figure out what caused the suspect to snap.

Police say 30-year-old Waid Anthony Melton shot three of his co-workers Monday night around 6:15 p.m. at the Ben E. Keith warehouse near Broadway and Gibson.

Not many employees showed up to work Tuesday, but one employee says their business is closed for day due to the investigation.

The three victims were taken to UNM Hospital. Two of the victims are still in critical condition while the other is stable.

Police say Melton was able to escape after the shooting.

Sandoval County Sheriff’s Deputies found him hours later dead, next to his car in a neighborhood in Placitas.

Albuquerque Police say they are still investigating Melton’s cause of death.

A truck driver coming in from Florida, delivering a load of frozen bread says he had trouble dropping off the delivery because no one from the company told him about what happened Monday night.

There is still no word on whether or not Melton was working a shift when he shot his co-workers.

A search of court records shows no criminal history on Melton.

The city has scheduled a 2:30 p.m. news conference to provide an update on the case.
