An armed standoff in the Curry County Adult Detention Center ended with the suspect shooting himself.
Wesley Flores, 28, suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday evening, according to a statement from the Clovis Police Department. Flores was then taken to a hospital in Lubbock.

On Thursday, February 1, 2018, at about 2:46 p.m., Officers of the Clovis Police Department responded to the Curry County Adult Detention Center in reference to an inmate armed with a firearm and a possible hostage situation. Clovis Police Officers and Officers of the New Mexico State Police arrived on scene to support the Curry County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect was identified as Wesley Flores (28 years of age) who had been taken into custody for a failure to appear Bench Warrant out of District Court, following a call for service involving him. During processing at the Curry County Detention Center, Flores produced a firearm but was confined to a small processing area. Clovis Police Department SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene to assist the Curry County Sheriff’s Office during this incident.
After approximately four hours of continual negotiations, Flores refused to cooperate or surrender himself. As other tactics were employed, Flores discharged the pistol into his lower right jaw. Flores was extracted from the room and was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries from the self inflicted wound. Flores has subsequently been transported to a Lubbock, Texas area hospital for treatment.
