On Monday, Ector County Commissioners approved an Army exercise that will take place later this year.

Officials say no weapons will be used in the exercise, described more as a “role playing scenario.”

Ector County Judge Ron Eckert says the exercise is nothing to be concerned about.

“We don’t need to go into a mass panic,” Eckert said following the meeting. “They’re not taking over any retail store or anything like that. It’s just a small exercise for a confined period of time. It’s necessary to train covert operations.”

The Army exercise will take place from April 1 to April 24.
