A man was arrested for capital murder nearly a year and a half since a pregnant woman was shot to death.
Charlesetta Telford was shot to death outside of her apartment in June 2016.
This weekend, 31-year-old Anthony Dwion Richards was charged with Capital Murder for her death.
“The investigator that was assigned this case has been working on this thing very hard. This is one of those cases where it was obviously a sad event, anytime someone is murdered it is a sad event, Charlesetta was pregnant also so that just adds to the sorrow the family feels,” said Lt. Erick Bohannon with the Special Crimes Unit.
Lt. Bohannon says investigators have been working diligently to get Telford and her family justice.
“There was a lot of information that we learned over the course over the initial couple of months then we did an actually cold case story regarding this case because we were at a point where we did not have a suspect in custody. Here in the last several weeks, evidence has come up that has now allowed us to obtain an arrest warrant.”
Bohannon tells us they are glad to have an arrest made, but the work isn’t done.
They will now send the case to the district attorney’s office.
Telford’s family had been in touch with investigators since her death and Bohannon says they were happy to learn of the arrest.
“As I am going to tell, I can’t give you a lot of details of what has transpired over the last several weeks, we told them the same thing but nonetheless they were still happy that we were still able to make a move on this case and make an arrest,” added Lt. Bohannon.
Billy Ivy Jr. has been implicated in the death of Charlesetta Telford.
According to court documents, investigators have said Ivy could be tied to Telford’s murder because he allegedly had a sexual relationship with her and may be the father of her unborn child.
Ivy has not been charged in the case.
