Clovis Fire Department is reporting a Monday apartment fire was started by a cat knocking over a candle.

Officials report firefighters were called out at 3:49 p.m. mountain time to the fire after the cat knocked over a candle on a bed in a first floor apartment on the 1000 block of MLK Jr. Blvd in Clovis.

Officials say 12 apartments are affected with 40 people displaced at this time.

The first floor apartment is reportedly a complete loss and 11 other apartments have smoke and soot damage.

The City of Clovis Emergency Management is helping those displaced.

Officials say one person was treated for smoke inhalation. That person was treated and released.

Officials report the cat died.
