[Wednesday] evening around 6:33 p.m. the New Mexico State Police were advised of an officer-involved shooting on US 380 near milepost 195, involving Chaves County Sheriff’s Office deputies. 

Following the exchange of gunfire, the suspect fled into the adjacent sand dunes off US 380.

Around 8:00 p.m. the suspect, 40 year old Chadwick Taylor of Conchas Dam, NM, was located and taken into custody without incident by the New Mexico State Police.

US 380 from mile post 162 through mile post 201 was closed to traffic for the majority of the night while the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau conducted scene processing and collection of evidence.

There were no injuries sustained by any of the individuals involved in the incident. The suspect was transported to Roswell for booking at the Chaves County Detention Center and charged with one count of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting/evading a police officer.

The name of the deputy will not be released until the interviews are completed.

This case is active and still under investigation with no further information available at this time.
