The following is a news release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s Office:

Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that on September 20, 2018, Brandon Cordova, age 36, of Clovis, was convicted by a Curry County jury of Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer.

On March 8, 2017, Mr. Cordova led an officer on a car chase up Gidding Street, to 21st Street and onto North Main Street.  Mr. Cordova reached speeds of approximately 55 mph and swerved around cars, driving into oncoming traffic.  The officer terminated the pursuit for safety purposes and located Mr. Cordova at a later date.

During trial, defense called a witness to testify that he had actually been the driver on March 8, 2017.  However, on rebuttal, the State presented evidence that this witness had been paid for his testimony.

The Honorable Fred Van Soelen presided over the one-day trial and ordered that sentencing be held at a later date.  Mr. Cordova is facing up to 5 ½ years in the Department of Corrections.

This case was prosecuted for the State by Arwen Gaddis, Assistant District Attorney.  Mr. Cordova was represented by Assistant Public Defender, Jeremiah Hall.
