A man has died after a collision with an Amarillo Independent School District bus before 8 a.m. Thursday.

Amarillo Police responded to the intersection of Bell and Sandie Drive for an accident involving a school bus and a white van.

Officials say the school bus had been northbound on Bell Street and was in the turning lane to go west on Sandie Drive.

A white Ford Excursion, driven by 40-year-old David Scott Nunn, was southbound on Bell Street. Witnesses told officers that Nunn was driving at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic.

Nunn drove into the turning lane where the school bus was waiting to turn. The Excursion struck the bus head on. Nunn was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

Two passengers and the school bus driver were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Justice of the Peace Richard Herman has ordered an autopsy to be performed on Nunn. The Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the accident.
