El Paso Police arrested and charged one of their own with a crime Monday evening. The alleged victim came forward saying that they’d been sexually assaulted over the weekend by an off-duty EPPD Officer.
EPPD’s Crimes Against Children detectives arrested Juan Gardea, 46, on one count of Sexual Assault of a Child at 9 p.m. Monday night at a home in the 1400 block of Dominic Anakin in El Paso’s far east side.
Gardea’s bond was set at $100,000. Gardea’s mugshot is not being released due to the fact that his daily assignment was often working under-cover and could potentially compromise ongoing investigations or safety of other officers, according to a spokesperson with the Department. He has been a veteran of the El Paso Police Department for 19-years.
Gardea has been placed on administrative leave.
