The former Sunray High School principal is among three who were arrested on drug charges in Amarillo.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, just after 2:30 a.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to 18 Western Plaza Drive on a trespass.

Officers said a group of people were coming and going from a room in the hotel and were causing a disturbance to other guests.

That is where they said they found Chad Walker, 44, Amanda Walker, 31, and Sidney Whiteley, 51.

When officers entered the room, they observed what is believed to be methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in open view.

Chad Walker and Amanda Walker were arrested for Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group One Greater than or Equal to 400 grams, and Possession of Marijuana over 4 ounces less but than 5 Pounds.

Whiteley was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One Over 1 gram but less than 4 grams. 

All three were booked into the Potter County Detention Center. 

Whitley is the former Sunray High School principal.

The district released a statement saying Whiteley had previously tendered his resignation December 6, which was to be effective June 30.

They say on March 27, he was removed from his position as high school principal.

According to the release, Whiteley has been suspended and is not allowed on any district property. 

The district said they will cooperate with law enforcement on the incident and any related matters.

We are told because of state and federal privacy laws, the district will not disclose any further details or make any additional comments.

At approximately 8:00 a.m. Monday morning, the Sunray ISD administration was informed by law enforcement authorities that the former High School Principal, Sid Whiteley, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, 1 gram or more, less than 4 grams.  

Mr. Whiteley had previously tendered his resignation from employment with the District on December 6, 2017, which was to be effective June 30, 2018.  But on March 27, 2018, he was removed from his position as High School Principal and his duties since then were divided among various other school employees.  Mr. Whiteley was in Amarillo and the arrest was made by the Amarillo Police Department.  Therefore, at no time was the safety of Sunray ISD students at risk during the incident.   In light of this incident and the circumstances surrounding his arrest as reported to this District by the Amarillo Police Department, Mr. Whiteley has been suspended completely from employment and he has been warned that he may not enter onto any District property.  Mr. Whiteley will not participate or attend in any remaining school activities at Sunray ISD, including High School graduation.

The District appreciates the assistance it has received from the Amarillo Police Department and it will cooperate with the appropriate law enforcement agency(ies) investigating the incident for which he was arrested and any related matters.  Further, the State Board of Educator Certification will also be notified of Mr. Whiteley’s arrest.

Due to state and federal privacy laws, the District will not disclose any further information about this matter or make any additional comment concerning it. We appreciate your cooperation.
