Law enforcement responded to a high school in Santa Fe, Texas near Houston Friday morning after an active shooter was reported on campus.

Officials have identified the suspect as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, according to KHOU. His social media pages included many references to guns, Nazi symbols, a hammer & sickle, and a “born to kill” t-shirt.

Earlier in the day, the CBS TV affiliate for Houston (KHOU) said at least 8 people were dead and at least one law enforcement officer was injured.

In the afternoon, Governor Greg Abbott provided an update.  He said 10 people lost their lives.

Abbott also said he would work immediately with lawmakers and others for swift solutions to prevent mass shootings in Texas schools.

The initial 911 call was after 7:30. The Santa Fe school district issued an alert saying the high school was placed on lockdown. It was then evacuated.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a male suspect was in custody and a person of interest was detained and questioned. Both were believed to be students at the school.

“We hope the worst is over and I really can’t say any more about that because it would be pure speculation,” Assistant Principal Cris Richardson told media outlets at the scene.

A bomb squad was called in because law enforcement had reason to believe there could be an explosive device in the building, according to KHOU.

A second crime scene was set up a residence away from the high school.  KHOU reported that the second crime scene location was consistent with the home address of the suspected shooter.  Law enforcement confirmed that suspicious devices were located in the high school and a site away from the high school.

This is a developing story.  Check back for updates.
