On Monday, September 4, at approximately 11:29 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of N. Linam in reference to an auto burglary that had just occurred. Upon arrival, the reporting person told officers he heard something being moved in his vehicle outside of his residence. When he went outside to see what the noise was, he saw a male suspect closing the camper shell on his truck. The male was reported to have run away when confronted by the owner of the vehicle.
Officers began to search the area and located the suspect. He was identified as 25-year-old, Joshua Massey, of Hobbs. Massey had a leaf blower in his possession, which was found to be a piece of property missing from the back of the truck in question. It was also discovered that Massey had an outstanding arrest warrant from Hobbs Magistrate Court. While being arrested for the warrant, Massey told officers he was in possession of a
hypodermic needle that he used to inject methamphetamine. Massey was taken into custody and transported
to the Hobbs City Jail.
The outstanding warrant consisted of charges of 3 counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration (Third degree Felony) stemming from a criminal complaint filed on August 7, 2017.
Massey was booked on charges of Burglary Unlawful Entry – No Force (Fourth degree Felony); 3 Counts of
Criminal Sexual Penetration (Third degree Felony); Manufacture/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
(Misdemeanor); Probation Violation (Misdemeanor). He is currently being held at the Lea County Detention
Facility.
